Former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.),
said in Lagos on Friday that it was impossible for any country, including
Nigeria, to exist or develop without peace.
Abdulsalami said this during a condolence visit to the Lagos
State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, whose father, Pa Ibrahim Fashola, died
on Monday.
“I keep saying that without peace there won’t be any
country, without peace, there won’t be people and without peace there won’t be
means of livelihood,” he said.
According to a statement by Fashola’s Special Adviser on
Media, Hakeem Bello, Abdulsalami commended the governor on the future he is
building for the state.
Fashola thanked the former leader for honouring his late
father and his family.
“I hope that the leadership you provide for this country
will continue to endure and through that leadership, much more enduring peace
will spread around this country,” Fashola said.
The governor also appealed for peace in the country.
The general was accompanied by another former military Head
of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.).
Also present during the visit were the governor’s wife,
Emmanuella Fashola, the governor’s siblings and grandchildren of the deceased.
