I can not exactly pin-point the bone of contention between
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and President Goodluck Jonathan but the
fight dates back 2010.
Although the fighting between Jonathan and Amaechi
intensified over the past few months, the ground was being set up for it as far
back as August 2010 when Amaechi played host to the First Lady, Dame Patience
Jonathan at her Okrika hometown.
While showing her work that needed to be done around a
primary school and the need for demolition, the First Lady jumped up, seized
the microphone and berated him on insisting on demolitions in the area,
considering how scarce land was and the accompanying emotions. The seeds of a
conflict had already been sown.
It worsened when Rivers State and neighbouring Bayelsa State
got in a boundary dispute late 2012, which would determine into which state
certain oil wells fell. The arbiter, the Nigerian Boundary Commission adjusted
the borders to the advantage of Bayelsa, which happens to be Jonathan’s home
state, causing Amaechi to publicly accuse President Jonathan of being biased
towards his home state.
Now, the fight has grown wings...you can read all about
their feud HERE.
Anyway, Governor Rotimi was on BBC HardTalk programme and he
said quite alot, he really poured out his heart.
