Malala meets Nigeria's leader Goodluck Jonathan over abducted girls

Pakistani rights activist Malala Yousafzai has met Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan to press for more action to free at least 200 girls held by Boko Haram Islamist militants.

The militants' leader has reiterated in a new video message that he is prepared to negotiate a prisoner swap for them.

He also expressed support for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-declared caliph of a new Middle Eastern state.

Boko Haram sparked a global outcry when it abducted the girls three months ago.

'Birthday wish'

Mr Jonathan's government has faced strong criticism for not doing enough to curb violence by Boko Haram, especially in the wake of the kidnappings.

Malala met Mr Jonathan in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, and urged him to meet the families of the kid She met relatives of the girls on Sunday, and expressed solidarity with them.

BBC Nigeria correspondent Tomi Oladipo says it is highly unusual that the president has not spoken to the relatives, exactly three months after the abductions.

The military has also failed to debrief some of the girls who managed to escape from captivity, he says.

But in a statement after his meeting with Malala, President Jonathan said he would meet with the parents before they left Abuja "to personally comfort them and reassure them" that the government was doing "all within its powers to rescue their daughters".

The notion that the government has not been doing enough to find and rescue the girls was "very wrong and misplaced", the statement said.

"Terror is relatively new here and dealing with it has its challenges. The great challenge in rescuing the Chibok girls is the need to ensure that they are rescued alive," Mr Jonathan said.

After meeting the parents, Malala said she understood their suffering.

"It's quite difficult for a parent to know that their daughter is in great danger. My birthday wish this year is... bring back our girls now, and alive."kidnapped girls.

Two years ago, Malala was shot in the head by Pakistani Taliban militants for campaigning for girls' education.

She survived after being airlifted to the UK for treatment.

In a very revealing interview with City People this week, Hon. Adijat Adeleye Oladapo, a lawmaker in the Ogun state House of Assembly, opened up about her life, of how she got pregnant when she was in secondary school, how the baby daddy denied the child and how she had to relocate to have her baby only for the child to die 18 months later. In this very deep interview, Hon. Oladapo talked about what she did to change her life. Read below...

"While I was in secondary school, I was a brilliant student. In my primary school I came second best student in our G2 exams but unfortunately, I started moving with some people who were more experienced and exposed than I was. One way or the other, I got pregnant when I was in SS1. The person who was responsible denied it because I was young and naive. I usually keep to myself a lot. My parents didn't know I was pregnant after four months and the guy also didn't know until about 4 months, although he equally impregnated about 2 other girls at the same time. He was a big boy in secondary school, the Senior Prefect, very brilliant.

It all started by exchanging novels and textbooks. I had to leave Akute where my parents stayed to live with my paternal grandfather in Kajola, a small village which was hard for me to endure because the viallage had nothing. I had my baby in December 1991. After the naming of the baby, my family held a meeting and asked me what I wanted to do and I told them I wanted to go back to school. My paternal grandmother was totally against it, simply because she felt it was a waste sending a girl child to school after what I had done but my father was ready to give me another chance which I will forever be grateful for. I enrolled in a school not far from my house because of my baby and I repeated my class. Unfortunately, the child died at 18months in 1993. It was like double jeopardy for  me, nothing to show for the stigma and missing school. When he was buried, I went to his grave and requested from God to help me because I was determined to be successful which was like a vow. I even cursed the boy who got me pregnant because he denied the pregnancy, that he would not be greater than me in life. I don't know his level now but I am grateful for what I am today.

I have forgiven him. After my secondary school, I decided to leave home to begin my journey. In 1998, I was admitted into the University of Lagos, things were tight for me then but someone introduced me to a job which was thrift collecting and daily contribution. I started working there and for years, I collected daily contributions in Ketu market and some other popular markets in Lagos state. I didn't have enough time to attend classes. I had to trek some places so my money would be enough. It was while I was working as a thrift collector, while coming from the office one day I stopped at my mother's shop to take some foodstuff from her shop. I met a man there who bought most of the foodstuffs and we started talking. That was the man I married and we have two kids. After then, my life changed" she said

Jadapose: 16-Year-Old Girl Speaks Out After Her Rape Goes Viral

A young Houston woman is bravely speaking out after her rape turned viral. Last month, 16-year-old Jada was drugged and raped at a friend’s house party and had no clue what had happened to her until pictures and videos of her assault appeared on social media. All she remembers is being given some punch by the party’s host, a friend of a friend, that she believes was spiked.

"I had no control. I didn’t tell anyone to take my clothes off and do what they did to me."

Seeing her rape appear online was bad enough, but then came the memes and hashtags making fun of the aftermath. #Jadapose became a thing where people were copying the position her unconscious body was in after she had been raped.

They also began cyber bullying and rape shaming the high school junior, including the host of the party and alleged rapist, Innel Yahia, who previously had the Twitter account “WhiteBoyLaFlare.”  Before he deleted his account, he tweeted to Jada:

HOW ITS RAPE? YOU HAD 2 MONTHS TO SAY SOMETHING BUT YOU AINT SAY SH-T TILL YOU GET EXPOSED?

As of right now, Houston police are investigating Jada’s claims, and although rape victims’ identities aren’t normally revealed in situations like this, she refused to hide in hopes that it will help someone else.

“Everybody knows,” said Jada. “And everybody’s texting me are you OK? You’re going to be OK, and I was like alright. There’s no point in hiding,” she said. “Everybody has already seen my face and my body, but that’s not what I am and who I am.

UK-based Nigerian tackles church over marriage breakdown

UK based Nigerian Ayadi Moniaye is claiming that his church's hierarchy in Nigeria and the UK took advantage of him, wrecked his marriage and are ignoring him. He claims his Nigerian wife used him to obtain visa /stay, then stitched him up, took his children, and took his possessions/house. He also claimed that the church and his ex-wife ganged up on him and smeared that he was insane.

A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Ayadi Moniaye, has accused the Jubilee Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Manchester of turning his ex-wife against him which eventually ended their marriage.

Moniaye, who said he got married to his wife in 2000, said the marriage packed up in 2009 after years of domestic violence.

The father of three alleged that a group in the parish taught women how to get the support of the UK immigration policy by abusing their spouses.

He said, “Nigerian women in the UK were brainwashed by the group to abuse their husbands so they can claim their husbands’ property and exploit the UK immigration policy to their advantage.

“I challenged the church, telling the coordinators of the programme that the Bible did not support such practice. Unknown to me, my wife was part of it.”

He said his wife assaulted him on many occasions, but he did not retaliate which got her frustrated.

Moniaye said, “On one of such occasions, she injured me. She later called the police to drive me out of the house. When the police got to our home, they met the children around me, consoling me, and because of what they saw, they could not drive me out of the house.

“After series of such unprovoked attacks, my wife admitted that she was maltreating me to get me out of the house.”

Moniaye showed our correspondent documents detailing his ordeals in the UK, including an alleged accusation by his wife that he was mentally unstable.

The allegation of mental instability was, however, rejected by a document dated June, 2010 and issued by one Dr R.A. Jones of Manchester Mental Health.

The document read in part, “As far as I am aware, our Team Manager, Emma Hinchcliff, has also contacted the Children and Families Social Services to outline our thoughts that there is no evidence of you suffering with a major mental illness at present.”

Another document by one Mama ‘Toro, an elder in the community, dated February 2011, read that Moniaye had been beaten several times by his wife.

Moniaye told our correspondent that although he had been separated from his wife, he was concerned about the negative impression such incidents were creating for Nigerians.

He said all efforts to get the matter to the attention of the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, had been rebuffed by protocol officers.

“I am deeply concerned about the way women are portraying the image of this country to the outside world. And it is unfortunate that the church would be used as a platform for this. My concern is how we can correct this impression,” he added.

PUNCH Metro contacted Jubilee Church, Manchester, through its official telephone lines.

An official of the church told our correspondent that the pastor would not respond to the allegation.

The official, who did not give his name, said, “I can tell you that the pastor will not want to talk about it. But I appreciate the call and will pass your message across to him.”

It was learnt that police in Manchester, which investigated the case, sent a feedback to Moniaye.

The reaction reads, “Inspector O’Reilly followed up the allegations you made, and on one occasion he attended the church on Hyde Road to verify your story. He spoke to the pastor, who told him that they found you to be intractable and not only did they not confirm your account, they stated that they were concerned for you and prayed for you.”

PUNCH Metro visited the national headquarters of the RCCG at Oyingbo, Lagos, where he met one of the church pastors.

He directed our correspondent to the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, saying matters of such magnitude were usually addressed there.

The Chief Legal Officer, Pastor Ayodele Oladeji, said, “Yes, a letter has been received at our office here, written by Moniaye, requesting to see Daddy G.O., and we are treating it.

“I want to assure you that even those who write to Daddy G.O. on ordinary piece of paper receive attention. We will investigate this and know what happened.

“We have all the documents which Moniaye has submitted to us. He will get a redress of his case with a little patience. We ourselves could feel his pulse with facts on the documents. But you know for now it is still one sided until we get the other side (from the UK church).”

Watching Mo'Hits disband is the saddest moment in my career - Sunday Are

In a recent interview with City People magazine, popular artiste manager, Sunday Are, who manages stars like Omawunmi, D'Prince and others, said seeing Mo'Hits disband was the saddest moment in his career. He said he helped build the Mo'Hits brand and managed them for a while but he eventually left and not long after he left, they disintegrated

"Yes, I helped in building the brand, then I decided to focus on other things. There was no issue between us, we ran Mo'Hits like a family thing and we are still family. They are like my brothers. It was shortly after I left that Mo'Hits disbanded. Seeing the Mo'Hits that I helped grow go defunct was the saddest moment in my career. I waded in and tried to resolve their differences so as not to let the name die but I was made to realize it has happened and there was nothing anybody can do about it. I am happy that they are doing great individually and they are still friends. I would love to see them work together again. That is my prayer" he said.

'Mad' man caught with explosives in Obafemi Awolowo University hostel (photos)

A man identified as Adedayo Rasaki Daniel, who claims to be a mad man, was on Sunday allegedly caught with explosive substances around one of the hostels at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State

He was caught with explosive materials including petrol, wires, stove, and newspapers at about 1pm by the students of the OAU.

According to reports, he was caught with what looked like a mixture of petrol with an unidentified chemical around the Awo Hall of the school.

 Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Biodun Olarewaju, said

“What happened was that our security unit apprehended somebody, whose movement was suspicious. While they searched him, a stove, old newspapers copies, and some liquid mixture suspected to be kerosene, petrol or so were found on him.

“From our observation, the young guy may not be ok. We don’t want to leave anything to chances because of the security challenges in the country and that is why we handed him over to the police. We want the police to use their expertise to check if the guy is mentally ok or not. I wish to put it on record that our security officers are ever vigilant, and we don’t want any havoc here and machinery has been put in place to safeguard lives and property.”

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a group of notorious robbers who deal in stealing cars and re-selling. It was gathered that a pastor, Lawal Adesoye, whose vehicle was snatched by the robbers at gunpoint in Unity Estate, Igando, Lagos reported the matter to the police on Monday, May 26.

 At about 8.15pm on the fateful day, two members of the gang had swooped on the pastor while he was driving into his compound and had snatched the vehicle, a Toyota Camry model.

However, about a week later, following a tip-off, the SARS raided a building believed to be the hideout of the gang and arrested the three suspects.Twenty-seven-year-old Kareem, also known as Asunmo, who is said to be the gang leader, said harsh conditions that forced him into armed robbery.He told Punch

“I and Michael (Adeagbo) used to be okada riders. We met in Oshodi in 2006. Our condition was terrible as we were living from hand to mouth. But when the government placed a ban on motorcycles, life became more difficult and some of us took to robbery. The first car I snatched was a Toyota Camry. I sold it for N180,000 and with the money, I was able to meet my needs.

“Before taking to robbery, I was formerly into smuggling. I was bringing in pineapples from Lagos through the Seme Border. Later, Michael told me he was going to Ile-Ife, his hometown, to get a gun, so we could start the car-snatching operation. It was on one of our operations that we were caught. We did not know the pastor before. We just saw him coming and we decided to snatch his vehicle. We sold the car for N290,000.”

 The second gang member, 25-year-old Adeagbo, who hails from Ile-Ife, Osun State, said he took to robbery when his poverty was getting to ‘an unbearable level.He said,

“I was an okada rider plying the Oshodi area, but I lived in Ikotun. But when we were sent away by the government, I could not make ends meet again. I took to robbery.

“Apart from vehicles, I was also stealing phones, gold, laptops and others. I took to all these things, because I needed to make ends meet. The other members of my previous armed robbery gang were one Lucky and Kunle. Kunle is still in the Kirikiri Medium Prisons, but Lucky has died.”

On the robbery incident that led to his arrest, Adeagbo said he had gone to Ile-Ife to get the gun so that their operations could be more ‘effective.’

“I brought the gun from my village in Ile-Ife. We were not using a gun initially, but I brought it so that we could threaten our victims. On that particular day, Kareem and I were just strolling out, when we saw the pastor driving into his compound. So, we ambushed him, and hijacked his car. We did not want him to shout, so we threatened him with the gun, drove him away to some distance before dropping him off.”

 The third member of the gang, 32-year-old Patrick whohails from Ibillo, Edo State, confessed he provided the gang with shelter. He added that he usually received ‘gifts’ from the two after each operation.

He said, “On that day, Michael had brought a black bag to my house, which contained the pastor’s belongings. He also dropped the gun at my place. Many times, they had given me phones and cash after their operations. We usually smoked cannabis in the house. The place belongs to my father.”

21 year old student commits suicide over jilted lover in Cross River (Photo)

21-year-old student of Maritime Academy Oron, Effiong Otu committed suicide by hanging himself on a rope in his room on Thursday morning after he was jilted by his girl friend. According to reports,this happened on the same day he was marking the 10th  anniversary of his dad who died in a car accident. After the anniversary, his family members left the house and he went to a neighbour to borrow a rope.

Moments later, the suspicious neighbours wondered why he needed a rope and went to check on him but found the door locked. When  they broke down the door,he had passed on.He was the only son of his parents..

Before hanging himself, he was said a called a friend telling him to tell a certain blessing at UNICEM that she should be happy he has killed himself over her...

On the 6th of July,he posted the following message on Facebook
