Marry virgin for me, man tells wife insisting on divorce

Mohammed Audu, 51, of Tudun Wada, Mararaba in Nasarawa State, has asked a Grade 1 Area Court sitting at Aso Pada, to order his wife, Maryam, 25, to marry a virgin for him.
Audu, who made the request on Wednesday at the resumed hearing in a case instituted by his wife who sued for divorce, said he would agree to the divorce, if the wife could marry a virgin for him.
He made the request when the Presiding Officer, Malam Danladi Musa, asked the couple if they had resolved the issues that made the wife file for divorce.
The couple told the court that they were yet to settle the issue.
Audu, however, told the court that he had requested the persons who stood as their guardians during their marriage to come from the village to talk to his wife.
“They told me on phone that they will be coming next week to settle us.
“I, therefore, urge the court to give me one last chance to settle the matter,” he pleaded.
The wife, however, objected, saying that marriage guardians were not the ones who would make her to stay with her husband.
“All I want is the dissolution of this marriage.
“Their coming will not change my mind and desire for divorce,” she insisted.
Following the objection raised by the wife, the presiding officer asked Audu what he wanted the court to do since his wife has insisted on divorce.
Audu said that he would want the Islamic procedure of divorce to be followed in the matter
“I want `Khuli’ (dowry) from her.
“I want her to marry a young virgin girl for me to replace her.
“This is because she was a virgin when I married her,” Audu told the court.
After listening to their arguments, Musa granted Audu’s request for more time to settle the matter, and adjourned the case Oct. 14 for final settlement.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on Sept. 26, Maryam filed a suit against her husband, seeking the dissolution of their 16-year-old marriage.
She alleged that her husband had on several occasions announced that he had divorced her.
“Just recently, he alleged that the children stole his N100,000 and he invited the police to arrest, torture and detain them.
“He also threatened to arrest me because he said I conspired with the children to steal his money,’’ she said.
Maryam said she could no longer stay with a man who would call the police to arrest his children and wife.
The mother of five told the court that the money was later found in the husband’s wardrobe, and urged the court to separate them.
“He usually insults me, calling me unprintable names and also claimed that the children we have are not his.

On Sept. 16, the husband had pleaded with the court to give him time to settle with his wife, saying that he still loved her. (NAN)

Plane crashes after take-off in Lagos, Nigeria

LAGOS: A small chartered passenger plane with 27 people on board crashed shortly after take-off at Lagos airport's domestic terminal on Thursday and at least five people were killed, authorities said.

Aviation Ministry spokesman Joe Obi said there were some survivors from the Associated Airlines plane, which was flying from Nigeria's commercial capital to Akure, a south-western town about 140 miles (225 km) away, with seven crew and 20 passengers.

He did not have details of the type of aircraft.

"The plane couldn't lift properly so it just came down," Obi said. "Some persons are being rushed to hospital. A few dead bodies have been recovered, but there are survivors."

Yakubu Dati, coordinating general manager of Nigeria's airports authority, told Reuters on the scene that at least five passengers had been killed.

Several local radio stations and Channels TV reported that the plane was carrying a family and the body of former governor of Ondo state Olusegun Agagu to his funeral.

"There's a lot of smoke coming from the runway. There are fire-fighters rushing to the scene," Rasaki Rhakod, who runs a car service around the airport, told Reuters.

Air crashes are relatively common in Nigeria, which despite having Africa's second-biggest economy has a poor safety record.

In June last year, 163 people died when a Dana Air plane crashed into a Lagos apartment block in the country's worst airline disaster in two decades.

INDIA: Doctor Who Houses Women Who 'Rent' Their Wombs Out Says She's Only Helping Them

From BBC;

Surrogacy business is quite booming in India especially in Dr Nanya Patel's clinic situated at rural Gujarat, which houses up to 100 surrogate mothers. Women who carry babies for couples with fertility problems are paid US$8,000 while the doctor gets $28,000.

The (surrogacy) industry believed to be worth over $1billion (£619m) attracts childless couples from all over the world. Couples employ surrogate mothers as nannies and when they are through with all necessary paper work, they separate and take the children back to their respective countries.

The Doctor has several times been accused of running a baby-making factory and exploiting poor women but she doesn't see herself in that light, she considers herself as a feminist who is empowering them to take charge of their lives and improve their future
prospects.

"According to many, I am controversial. There have been allegations of baby selling, baby making factory. The surrogates are doing the physical work agreed and they are being compensated for it." She defended.

How we robbed Pasuma of his Range sport & shared the money – Robber confesses

The suspects  identified as Fatai Balogun, Wale Akinjobi and Gbenga Kolawole during interrogation, confessed to have come all the way from Ogun state to operate.
A source, who craved anonymity  told Crime Alert that the police launched a manhunt for the gang after  Pasuma’s encounter, during which  they were  intercepted.
The gang, as gathered, also attacked a wealthy man in Iju Ishaga area of Lagos, where they robbed him of N500,000, his mobile phones and other valuables. After the operation, one of them, Wale who resides around the area reportedly dug a hole at the back of his compound where he buried his weapon.
But unknown to him, a resident said to have sighted him,  alerted the police who quickly arrested him and transferred him to the SARS.During interrogation, Wale reportedly confessed that his gang robbed Pasuma of his Range Rover Sport Utility Vehicle, SUV, and an unspecified amount of  money, four months ago in Lagos. His confessional statement, as gathered, led to the arrest of other suspected members.
Fatai Balogun, told  Crime Alert that leader of the gang, Ade, got the highest share from Pasuma’s loot.

“He was the one who searched Pasuma and collected money from him. But  nobody knew the amount he got. Few days later, he bought a Toyota Camry car with the loot but gave us  peanuts.   I have gone on several operations with Ade. One of them was at Ajah area where we snatched a car at gun point along Epe road. We did that operation with Ade’s car but we had a little problem on the road after Ade ran into a ditch. We had to  abandon the car when policemen came looking for us but Ade later sent a towing vehicle to retrieve the car.

Wale  brought the job that landed  me in trouble. He told me  there was a  rich man who lives in his area, that  he would want me to follow him execute the job because he does not have the expertise to do it. I accepted because the job was an easy one, as there won’t  be much huddles  getting inside. We were three in number that went for the operation.
I took N120,000 and gave Wale and Gbenga their  share. I sold the laptops  we took from the man for N40,000 each and at the end, I relocated to my base in Abeokuta, Ogun State.  I don’t know how Wale mishandled  the gun he used for the operation, which led to his being sighted by one of his neighbors,”he stated.
